A garage or out building certainly adds value to your property. The question is how much and does it offset the expense of construction. Garages add utility as well as long-lasting value. In the short term you may not recoupe the entire expenditure but if you plan on staying put you can't go wrong over the long term. Detached out buildings are especially attractive to potential Buyers. It opens up many possiblities like nanny suite, games room, band room, work shop and extra storage for tools and toys.
